More likely Mike, that "Someone" has been inside & had a twiddle with the adjustments - but true, the coil on the ferrite rod can have the glue die with time & they can move along the rod (or you can have a broken rod, they are brittle). Easy to tweak back - tune to a weak signal around 1215khtz, & carefully with something insulated (your fingers affect things), move the coil along the rod for maximum signal. Then seal with glue.
The other problem that effects these old Grundigs, is switching age - sometimes cured with switch cleaner. Some had provision for an external aerial too - though little help, if lots of overhead phone lines carrying broadband are local to you (As I have)
I've an old Concert boy I found at a car boot fair a while back for £5. Not done much with it, I think IT suffers from Switch problems!
