Freddie if you have read any of my posts in the past I am hardly a Caroline knocker. I get bored with Neil and his moaning's and sniping. I feel Geoff's arguments are a little obsessive sometimes. However even I can see that a 648 or DAB licence is a huge compromise to the freedom's that Caroline had. Don't get me wrong most of the time Caroline was at sea they were a harmless distraction and never challenged the state as such, just standing up for its right to exist. The 70's election involvement was a manipulative move to use the Caroline name by RNI and Ronan probably accepted its use as he had a chance to bring back Caroline and have a pop at Harold.
The main theme of Caroline has been the LA thing and championing the underdog in a thought provoking way, supporting Green peace and trying to make us all understand that if we have a positive outlook we can change things.
I don't choose Caroline because it plays the same as the other stations, I choose them because they play different stuff and are different. Thank you for the advice to use you-tube, its not Radio but heh-ho.
If Caroline was given a licence back in 65, but they had to accept the needle-time would you have said we've moved on, go somewhere else?
I want Caroline on 648am, but if it is compromising on some of its edge then it is time for a Caroline Overdrive service. Time to raise more money and seek more volunteers. Caroline has a lot of friends and at some point this baton needs to be handed over. Peter has done a wonderful job and long may he continue to do so and be blessed with good health, but as I have said before the station may not be here in 10 years time if we don't spark the imagination of new listeners to understand there is a choice out there and something different available. 648 can be a way of introducing new listeners and help understand its ideology using old and new technology.
