Agree with Dave. This is a typical sensational tabloid newspaper article without substance. We all know there is no way FM radio is going to be switched off this year - they haven't even stopped all AM broadcasting yet. For this to become a reality, we would need the main national network stations move to DAB+ to both increase capacity and increase sound quality. That would immediately cause an uproar is hundreds of thousands of cheaper digital radio's do not do DAB+ so people would be forced to buy digital again. Car radio's seem to universally be dual standard DAB/DAB+ luckily - even from several years back. As the state broadcaster , only the BBC can make the first move - as they were with television with BBC2 being switched off first. I would suggest that Radio 3 should be switched off FM and to DAB+ to satisfy the audiophiles - although the BBC seem to be steering audiophiles to their AAC online streams these days. Turning off Radio 3 FM would free up a big chunk of spectrum for new community and city wide FM stations as well.
