Not so much the bass rolled back, more a case of the mid and top being pushed. The problem is that if you compress the bass it uses up a lot of the AM system's dynamic range which is very limited compared with the FM's. The result being that it sounds quieter and doesnt cut through the mush. The listener can compensate by winding up the bass control. It sounds fairly punchy on my AstraVan with the bass at max. Also carrier set at 60W but stereotool allows positive peaks >100% so currently set at 125% giving positive pep of 300W. Some radios dont like more than 100% mod. but most are OK.
