Re LF end of the band.
Stx, I hear what you say regarding propagation and the challenge in erecting a suitable antenna from a pirates perspective.
I think I misjudged the latter in as much as in my opinion the greater groundwave coverage of the LF end of the band outweighs the reduction in antenna efficiency.
This is probably all well and good if you are using a professional designed monopole with standard ground system and not a 807 or Commando powered by a battery or the local telephone box with wire strung up a tree and a stream for a ground.
Whoever was on 1395 again on my way home from the office had absolutely crap audio with the bandwidth of a 600 ohm twisted pair.
