1 – NO!
If you look back on the original announcement thread I was the fourth to reply and the first to point out that he had not mentioned any ship.
Although with the months of posts building up to the announcement where he claimed his offshore project was moving ahead, he had secured contracts to pay the running costs, had half the £30k budget in hand whilst also slagging off the internet as a delivery platform for radio, I can see why people fell for it.
2 – NO!
Despite me having a more open view to internet radio than Neil has expressed, no matter what the format is, Crusin531 is not going to have any impact whatsoever on mainstream radio.
3 – NO!
It was fairly clear after the failure to launch his fully-legal, international, commercial SW station early this year and his silly budget of £30k for the offshore project, that he’s a dreamer with little clue of what he is actually talking about and planning, and clearly has no business acumen whatsoever.
As for the start of real programming, why the delay? I’ve seen posts from people that e-mailed him when he advertised the paid positions for his SW project, yet receive no replies, why?
I was involved in setting-up 24/7 stations during the 80s pirate era in Ireland, what Neil would describe as ‘real radio’, because we operated both AM & FM transmitters.
With these projects we had to find studio premises with suitable height for the FM mast, separate AM site, somewhere to live, build real studios, etc., etc. – and all this in a time frame less than Neil has had to launch from announcement on 15/4/09 to yesterday and one assumes he was planning before the original announcement anyway.
What’s more we never tested for more than about 5-days before the launch of proper live 24/7 programmes, so with so little to do in comparison why is he still testing with long gaps between tracks?
Of course, he hasn’t helped himself by making public how he went out of his way to prevent the Ross being moved so that thousands of people could enjoy a tour of the ship. Whatever you think of Caroline that was well out of order.
The big question is - has he just be on a wind-up and is currently laughing his head of at the reaction he has caused across several anorak sites or is he truly delusional and currently suffering depression because people are laughing at him?
I hope it’s the first, because I wouldn’t wish the second option on anyone.
Too be honest the whole thing has been like watching a very slow train crash, you could see it coming, but there was no way of stopping it.
