There still must be quite a lot of people who haven't got all day internet access, maybe at least 60%-70% of the population, the same goes for Sky. I would say easily the vast majority of radio listeners get their radio programs through a portable set or hi fi in their homes, followed by the digital platforms on Freeview, then DAB, then Sky, and lastly the internet in that order
Just to confirm Mr Rocks...
Internet Usage Statistics:
38,512,837 Internet users as of Sept/06, 63.8% of the population, according to Nielsen/Ratings.
AND look at the date 2006!! Now 3 years on, I believe the current reckoning is around 70% are users.
OK, not all users listen to radio on the net, but the numbers are increasing month on month - and quickly too.
AM/FM etc are not dead though - nor will they be for many, many years, but they will decline in use as internet grows.
The stupidity of all we have read here recently is this......
If we are all so radio-deprived as Neil and friends believe we are, why not invest the 30 grand into a solid radio format of the type we are all told we are missing, use some of the money to promote the existence and get on with it!!
At the very least, Neil should get a web station on-air as the forerunner of what he will broadcast from his ship. As a radio pro myself, I can assure you it takes many months of settling a new format down, tweaking it here and there as feedback comes in until you hit the nail properly on the head!
