Many people are aware of the alledged PUG cross with the old bulldog.
Many books mention it but hard evidence dos not existfor it only theory and rumours.
But SPANISH BULLDOG blood was infused and the pedigrees and the dog men involved are well known
but very few people no of this cross.
It was the main reason the bulldog club was set up
to preserve the bulldog as it then existed
one of the noted specimens of this cross was BIG HEADED BILLY.
A son of his is mentioned in the first ever bulldog book
THE BIGGEST BULLDOG I HAVE SEEN A MONSTER AT 55LBS
(THREE QUATER BULLDOG QUATER SPANISH )
MOST OF THE BULLDOGS OF THIS TIME WERE 25 TO 35 LBS
SO HOW BIG WAS HIS SIRE BILLY
