where you will sit and contemplate your day
So many have disappeared in such a short span of time. Amelia aches with the thought of it, her bones weak, her muscles aching upon awakening each morning. Her heart hurts, and her mind cannot control the worry that rushes through her body each time she sees that another is missing. One after another, the inhabitants of Ni'Srilan have been leaving, dying, disappearing. She worries that she shall wake up one morning and simply not exist. The physics of such an event do not occur to her, and she imagines herself waking up in snow and cruel wind, somewhere that is not Ni'Srilan. This scares her.
The changing has also brought new horses to Ni'Srilan, horses who smell of salt water and dampness. She recognizes them as they wander in, their eyes searching for someone familiar to gravitate towards. The socialite in her brings her near them, welcoming them when others will not. It is with this feeling in her stomach that she walks towards the two new arrivals. They seem stiff, unsure, and she is not sure how to pair them: nervous couple, traveling siblings. They look young, but what is young anymore? She cannot judge ages any better now than she could when was she young herself, and so she does not try. Instead, she studies them until they stand quiet. Slowly, she walks towards them and stops just short of both of them.
"I am Amelia, and this..." She looks out at the desert, and hates the way the sands have stopped moving and the colors have darkened (darker than usual in the night). "This is Ni'Srilan." And, to answer the question that she has been wondering since she saw them, she asks, "Are you looking for someone in particular? So many these days search for someone."
