for even to think wrongly

Yes, it’s all crashing. But it always was. The Element is in precarious balance with the natural world (none of this is natural though, and everyone knows that) and the Elemental world. And now, with so much death, so much betrayal…the Elements are gaining strength. Too much strength. Strength to take what they want for themselves now.
No one needs to be an Oracle to see that.
We’ll both dance, lost in the Fires and Winds of the final breath of our homes. It’s the only place we belong. Even if Hypatia wasn’t born here, she doesn’t remember more than a handful of memories. That life wasn’t important. In that life, she was nothing. It was the Element who made her. The Element that defined her.
Kail brushes along her side, bringing her thoughts back to the wolf Queen before her.
Hypatia says nothing to the Winds. Her fire is silent, but grows slightly when Fenris’s voice caresses against her. They both can see the smile, and the father who used to smile like that. Hypatia wants to smile in return for the memory, but she simply stands there, her head cocked ever so slightly away.
“Why should I not care for your children, Fenris?” They are children, and even if they are Wolves, Wolves are not evil, they are not the enemy. “They are a threat only when they are dangerous to life.” Hypatia’s eyes find Fenris’s. but they are distant, lost with the waves.
“I care for life, Fenris.” One of those crazy, sacrifice-yourself-to-save-someone shit. “I don’t love Andarin or Wolves, but I care for them. As long as they hurt no one.” Well, dangerously hurt, at least. “What else is there to care for?”
She can’t even care for Sterling anymore.
Kail mews back gently to the sand-wind-kitten and stretches out his paw to bat at it. But even that jest in half-hearted.
