His laughter is gruff in the back of his throat and it gurgles slightly in a happy way. Eyeing the mare he motion tot spindly creaky trees and other shrubs that had pursed out from the sand somehow.
“Personally I just find shade by the oasis during the days, and then do most of my exploring by night,”
A shrug rolls through his shoulders at this, as he stretches his legs, before leaning again the trunk of a tree again.
“And that’s how I learned to stand it,”
His voice is careless now as he closes his eyes for a moment, letting out a snort and wrinkling his nostrils. A breeze pulls past and it is heavy with sand and heat. Scowling, his lips smack together.
“And it takes a while. In the end the hate can slowly wash away, and the discomfort be replaced by content,”
It’s like Sterling’s thinking out loud more than talking to the mare. He opens his eyes again when she stutters her apology. He cannot help but let out a chortle with wonder in his eyes, he turns towards her, and the amusement is worn heavy into the dry lines of his lean face.
“There’s no need to be sorry about anything. The desert is hardly some sort of utopia for a large majority of the inhabitants all over Legend,”
He is shrugging again, before stepping forwards to drink, long, from the oasis. He finds himself shade under another tree, walking a few circles around it, glancing up to the sun where it pries through dry crackling leaves.
“Most of the stallions spend their time blowing things up, because they can. Otherwise racing along the dunes, sliding down them. I’ve heard some of the bigger boys going around the rockier areas to dare each other to get past some of the snakes. Lots of stupid things that involve dangerous creatures. Otherwise it’s a wonderful place for thinking,”
By the end Sterling’s voice is dry and sarcastic and his eyes roll, leaning against his new choice of shade.
“but what sorts of things did you do back at your old home?”
