The heat, the arid atmosphere, the grit; it all clung to him immediately and he soaked it in. Let it wash away the revolting scent of pine that hung on him like a car’s air freshener. His fire raged within him, welcoming the searing summer’s heat back upon his skin. A deep, rolling sigh whistled from his nostrils, head tossed towards the azure sky with an herbal essence wildness. Heaving to a stop, haunches crumpling beneath him before righting, Voraer breathed deep. Dark lines of sweat marked the folds and creases of his body, rib cage rising and falling faster than usual as his lungs worked harder from the sprint home. A sand paper breeze blew his copper cords between his hocks, tickling at the edge of his barrel, splashing crimson across the thick curve of his neck. ”Home.” His chest rumbled out the growl, steel eyes flashing mischievously.
His fire wheeled and clambered to his right. Voraer’s ear twitched towards the direction, blazed muzzle cutting across so his eyes could sweep the sands. Hypatia stood, her bold eyes watching him. Voraer hesitated for a moment, ashamed of his loss and the need to be rescued by Baraqel. It wasn’t the best terms to be meeting his leader on, he would have preferred when he earned bronze or when he won Ahriman back, but not now. Sucking down his cotton mouth, chasing away such mild nervous butterflies, the chestnut warrior approached her with the same stiff, arrogant walk he used customarily. His head, held ever aloft, but lacking any snooty pride, he came to stop before her. The white trail on his nose, bordered by the red, bobbed as he nodded to her. His thick voice, rough and deep rattled free. ”Hypatia… I apologize for the recent failure. I won’t be such a problem for you again, Silver is just on the horizon for me.” His fire flared as it recognized his challenge with Rowan. If he beat her, not only would he gain silver, he’d earn his second fire and settle a grudge. Lose to her… and so much more would crumble before him. He ground his teeth.
