He falls into step alongside Fantome, cresting the dunes with the ease of the serpents they take as their emblem.
It’s hard to believe how long it’s been since he was an obnoxious three-year-old, come from Solira for no reason other than boredom and idle curiosity. Now, he’s an obnoxious warrior, still no more better-tempered despite the years that have passed, slightly more abusive of his Elemental privileges.
It could have been him that became a traitor, if Hypatia had been less tolerant of his idiosyncrasies. And occasional utter negligence.
“It would be hard for me to be that…subtle,” he says, with an ironic smile.
That, is an understatement.
“Of course, I’ve been told that not everyone has that problem.” Some horses can enter or exit realms without everyone knowing about it.
“I’ve lived in Ni’Srilan since its beginning. I’m also very unobservant, wander a lot, and love Blitzkrieg, which is probably why we didn’t meet before.” it strikes Baraqel that the only thing he has in common with his son Cyan is that they both wander a lot. It also strikes Baraqel, again – like that nagging insect you can’t quite shrug – that he is quite potentially the worst father that ever lived. Cyan is painfully observant and hates Blitzkrieg, and if there’s anything Baraqel can’t do, it’s relate to the green-maned nerd. “What made you choose Ni’Srilan? Do you have family here, or did the inexorable call of the vast, hot wasteland win you over?”
Baraqel likes the desert’s climate, actually. The funny thing is, most horses aren’t composed of 75% Fire and Lightning.
