He’s just received the third level of his Fire element – finally, it equals the Lightning he was born with, so that he is a frenetic inferno of wildfires and electricity. It is so much a part of him that it pulses through his veins – fire encircled with flickering Lightning – and around him, like a palpable aura, and it is therein that he received his title. The Firestarter. A thousand cacti can testify to the accuracy of such a claim.
His mane and tail, crimson typically, occasionally ignite in billows of fire, and then spirals of black smoke rise to the ever-blue heavens.
Inconspicuous? Hardly. Fun? Depends on your perspective. Energetic? Enough to fuel a small nation for a millennium.
He watches the new stallion – obviously a warrior, or a bodybuilder, but hopefully the former, because as Commander he finds warriors useful, and bodybuilders are typically homosexual – approaches, tentatively, makes his observation. And Baraqel shrugs – ironically casual, his amber eyes glinting with traces of Fire and Lightning. “Yeah, if they’re not what you’re used to.” Baraqel was born here, but he’s heard that there are places where horses don’t have Elements. Baraqel would kill himself, but then again, he’s tasted the joy of exploding things. Not everyone has. “I’m Baraqel, Commander of the Ni’Srilan army. You’ll soon discover two things about this place. First, almost everyone has Elements. Second -” he flicks an ear – barely a conscious movement so much as an intentional release of the tension holding his conflagrant Elements together – and a pillar of Fire ensnared by a double-helix of Lightning explodes from him and strikes a nearby rock formation. The rock formation explodes in a miniature mushroom-cloud that rises up to the sky (The mushroom cloud, he notices with a flicker of satisfaction, is new.)
And then, he regales the new stallion with the second quick discovery newbies make – “Elements are fun.”
He dips his muzzle dramatically. “Welcome to Ni’Srilan.”
…This is why Baraqel doesn’t greet horses often.
