I don't think it is gender specific. In my humble experience, most of our toughest pups have been males. I also don't think you can train it out, but you can mold it. Oden is a terror when he is off-leash and unsupervised. I would not bet on the likelihood of survival of anyone who crossed his path when he is alone and on our property. But add me or my husband, and he is an awesome, obedient guy. I would not count on my sons being able to out him, but my husband and I have both stopped him mid charge on a cat that wandered onto our property. When he is off leash and in his own element, he is not the dog you guys see. But he is very obedient, and wants to please me. If I am not there to play his conscience, though, he has no conscience or memory of being the mild mannered Oden you guys know. I don't think that dominance can be "trained out of them", but I think it can be managed. They are still who they are when you aren't around.
