Sherri posted this question and I think it deserves it's own thread, so am moving it up. Excellent question. Let's have some discussion.
========================================
If I should have started a new thread please excuse me..But I wanted to get an opinion from those willing to answer.
Cameo (Alyssa's oldest female) at 3 weeks old was so food aggressive that her mother would not eat or drink if she was guarding the food bowl. She was allowed to eat first, until she was done, then taken out so that everyone else could eat. We were NOT very dog savvy when we bought her and it was cute when she was 7 lbs. Super funny too. As we have gone on with her the last 7 years we have just dealt with it because she won't bite us and because it seemed so ingrained in her (been doing it since she was 3 weeks old) that it wasn't an issue.
How could this be so important to her so young in her life? I should assure you that it wouldn't happen again. We know better now. Do you guys have any ideas?
Her food aggression is funny too because she has no problem with us holding something that she is eating, like an apple that she is going to take bites out of or a bone that she is pulling meat off of.
I know that food aggression is NOT good. I am not interested in stopping it in her now. Just want to know if anyone has ideas on how this became so important to her so young? She came from a litter of 6. 3 boys 3 girls.
Thanks,
Sherri
