I guess I started going there in the mid to late 40s...we could spend a good 4 hours of a Saturday afternoon there seeing two movies, a serial, newsreel, and, of course, cartoons.....for less then a quarter.
The Lefferts was probably our theater of choice. We also went to the Casino, and the Farrell, on Rockaway Blvd, and sometimes the Crossbay.
Later, when living in Woodhaven, it was the Willard, the Haven, the Roosevelt, and, the RKO Kieths.....it was the Valencia for a serious date...
I don't go much to the movies today...the theaters are multi screen complexes, and seem cold and impersonal....no character, I suppose...and...certainly too expensive....what happened to the days of a nickel box of candy and bag of popcorn?
Dang, I'm getting way too old....
