About 6 weeks ago we got a rescue dog. She's about 4 and a collie cross with possibly staffie in her. We were told that she is initially shy and sensitive and was removed from her previous home as it was unsuitable. Since she joined our family we've tried to establish a routine so she feels settled. She's an absolute joy but is very nervous around other dogs, to the point that she will lunge and bark trying to get to other dogs that we meet. The most worrying incident occurred the other day when I didn't see the other dog in time and she went for an attack. However, she broke off but only because I had, had to resort to shouting at her to come back. She's attending training classes and she loves her ball, so I try to give her lots of playtime before we go for a walk. But, she is extremely dependent on her ball as a "crutch" and I don't know the best way of helping her. I don't have another dog who can teach her how to behave appropriately around dogs and so I'm trying to lead by example, but I'm failing her. She's a truly smashing dog with so much potential and all I want is for her to be happy. I'd really appreciate any advice on what I can do to help her as I do now really feel that I am letting her down. Many thanks, any help is greatly appreciated.
