It's not long now until the 19th July when we start our pre-season at Needham Market. If you, like me, really can't wait for the said date, I thought it only correct to inform you of a few intersting details about our hosts for the day.
The name Needham Market, according to a gazetteer in a reputable Atlas of GB, means '' needy homestead with a market '', although today that would be inaccurate on both counts. It is however, likely that a Hamlet existed before the Domesday book was written due to it's position on the main road to Bury St Edmunds.
Manufacturing in the town has included a glue works, a patent manure works, a paper mill, a brick and mousetrap factory, but the chief employment after the decline of the wool trade is, suprise suprise, Agriculture.
If you wish to take a midweek trip to Needham Market, The Needham Market & District Horticultural Society meet on the first Thursday of every month at 7.30pm at the Needham Market Community Centre.
One last fact about Needham Market, probably the one closest to my heart, IS THAT WE NEED A FECKING 52 SEATER COACH TO GET US THERE AT ABOUT £500 !!
I hope you found this article informative and interesting. I hope you enjoy your day at Needham Market.
