Hi Max...
The temp sender for my digital guage is located in the top rad hose. It is an aftermarket unit, but is pretty accurate. I also use a wetting agent in the antifreeze called water wetter which also helps the antifreeze work better to get rid of the heat. The insulating foil I use is about 3/16ths of an inch thick, which I taped to the inside of the engine cover....
