I don't thing your problem have something to do with the pump...
Here is a picture of the engine
This is how the water is circulating
-Cold water enter in intake(blue arrow)
-Sucked by the pump (green circle)
-Pumped through the engine cooling jacket
-Exit the engine by the thermostat housing (red arrow)
-Circulated through the radiator and cooled down
-The cycle restart
If there is no water coming out of the ball valve when you open it, you should
-Make sure the water reserve is full
-Unplug the valve hose on the thermostat housing (red circle), you should have water coming out,
-Remove the thermostat housing, now you will certainly have water coming out
By doing this you will make sure the valve, hose and the thermostat housing are not plugged
