| The Great Jockstrap Debate
Posted by Michael N. Marcus on May 13, 2008, 9:04 am
At our first gym class in 7th grade in Sheridan Junior High, we were given a list of supplies we would need: sneakers, thick white socks, white T-shirt, white gym shorts, combination lock for our clothing basket, and something few of us were familar with: an athletic supporter (more commonly known as a jockstrap) to protect our precious genitalia. A week later, we reported to class with bags of our new or recycled supplies; and as we waited on the benches for our teacher to appear, the jockstrap became the subject of heated debate. The 12-year-olds were about evenly divided as to whether the strange garments were to be warn under our underpants or over our underpants. We were completely unprepared for the shocking truth revealed when the teacher finally showed up. Jock straps are worn instead of underpants. (Photo is not a typical 7th-grader.)
