Again, I’ll do some ooc and some IC.
For your first defense – I’m not sure Centurion would be so mindful of his throat, unless he knew what Requiem was going to do ahead of time. Remember that even though you as the player know what will happen, Centurion does not – I don’t think he would angle himself just so his shoulder is just in the right spot if he truly did not know what was next – a point might be removed here by a judge for ‘mindreading’ your opponent. Your defenses are pretty good otherwise, so I won’t waste IC words on them.
When Centurion comes again, Requiem is ready; he knows the places he has weakened and his eyes flicker to these as Centurion comes for him. There will be significantly less speed here than before – after all, his student is moving on an injured hind leg – and he has time, in the distance between them, to determine his own reaction.
When Centurion does not veer, Requiem rears to meet him – but he is slow on the uptake and cannot move as his opponent shifts suddenly to Requiem’s right; the blow falls on his rising cannon instead and the Friesian can feel pain bloom into this newest bruise. But there is something like a smile that crosses his lips when he lands, tenderly, favoring the right fore – a knowing token of his approval that Centurion is learning quickly.
“Good – that was good, Centurion. You used your momentum to add power to your attack. Because you did not slow to approach me, I thought you to ram into me and attack me as I did before – but you veered to the left and I paid the price. Understand that these attacks, dependent on good footing, are usually crippling for your opponent, but that there is always room for error. Were the ground less solid, you would be wiser to slow down and kick as you did before, or to not raise as high with each attack. That is not to say that you should always make every attack in good footing one that is in motion - analyze your advantages and determine if it is appropriate. A double barrel kick, for example, is the most powerful of attacks and can never be made mid-stride, but neither should you waste the opportunity to attack from afar by stopping before attacking. Use such a kick at close distance or to counter, once the ability is yours."
"Always watch your opponent, and never expect things to go as you plan – be mindful of the damage you have already sustained and use this knowledge to create attacks that do not stress your injuries further. If your opponent behaves badly, let the judges determine their sentence; do not lower yourself to insults or to dissecting the errors in their approaches. On the battlefield let yourself not be a machine, but a strategist.”
“I am satisfied that you have passed basic training. If you are still uncertain, move on to Advanced, or try another round at the Krieg. Keep everything I have taught you close at hand, and move beyond it. Good luck to you.”
[You’re catching on really quick! I think you took damage well – though you never specified really what pace you came at Requiem, which means you did not take into consideration that you may or may not be limping on the hind. Keep all these things in mind and make sure the judges know that *you* know Centurion is still injured. Also, always fill in the gaps between attacks/defenses even if it is the last attack/defense of your round – things like this, at least for me as a judge, point out to me how realistically you consider everything. What I mean by fill in the gaps is to make sure after you complete an attack/defense, you write out how Centurion recovers from it, how he gets away, and how he moves into the next round. All too often I see people just write that the attack is through and that somehow they are now attacking again. All these little tips should (hopefully) lead up to some quick successes! I’m away now for a week but if you wanted to continue training, I’m sure another teacher would be willing to do another Basic round or an Advanced one. Or you could just hit the Krieg – your choice!]
