Timing in training is important in all aspects, correction to reward. Corrections need to be timed with the incorrect behavior so that the proper correlation can be made by the dog. Reward timing, especially in the beginning, is the same way. The dog needs an immediate reward upon correct behavior. Whether we are potty training a puppy or training a competition dog it all applies. As the dog understands the behaviors we can use the “bridge commands” such as “good” (we talked about these earlier) to prolong the time the desired behaviors are expressed.
