Okay so I was trying to steal Ariel from Solira.
You are surrounded by waters, sweet Jerusalem.
"Surrounded by waters" is both a herd reference, to Solira, and a history reference, as both of Ariel's parents have the water element. "Sweet Jerusalem" is a name ref - Ariel is a name used for Jerusalem in the Bible
Waters blue as gemstones
Another history reference - Ariel's mothe ris Saphira, like sapphire, a blue gemstone.
Both serene and violent, gleaming and wise.
Again, history - Saphira, being a warrior and a gold, is "violent" and "gleaming", whilst Marshall, Ariel's father, is "serene" and "wise", being an Oracle.
Are you some spirit of the air, little one
The chracter of Ariel in Shakespeare's The Tempest is a spirit of the air, or a sylph. "Little one" is a rank ref, as Ariel is a Child.
Or a harpy, with wings of thunder -
Again, name ref, as Ariel at one point in the Shakespeare play famously appears as a harpy, and "claps his wings like thunder".
A child of lightning
Anothe rank ref, as a child, and another ref to her parentage, as Saphira has the lightning element.
Your statue stands by water too
Another name ref, as the statue of The Little Mermaid, otherwise known as Ariel, is by the sea in Denmark.
And with you
Full fathom five thy father lies
Another name ref - a famous line by Ariel in The Tempest.
Be brave, Lion of the Lord.
Ariel in Isiah in the Bible is translated as "the Lyon of the Lord".
Bravely, my didligence.
Thou shalt be set free.
Another Tempest quote re:Ariel.
So, what do you think? I don't know if the history stuff was quite relevant enough to pass, or if the whole thing was too obvious, or whatevs. But positive criticism would be appreciated - I need to get back into steal-shape!
