vipers and stuff
Herd reference: obvious herd ref is obvious.
My name’s John. I think I’m special, but sometimes that isn’t a good thing – at least it isn’t now. I live alone and work at a repair shop (but they don’t call it that, to protect its customers’ dignity). I don’t want to be there, but I’m not smart enough to leave – and even if I was, I’ve nowhere to go. I enjoy film and music, namely jazz like David Murray and Japanese rock. Sometimes, I have trouble telling real things from their imitations, which can get me in trouble (and has in the past).

Name reference: John Isidore is one of the main characters of Philip K. Dick’s Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?. He is what people in the book’s universe call a “chickenhead” or a “Special,” a person whose brain has been too negatively affected by radiation to leave earth. John Isidore is the only tenant in his apartment building and works at a mechanical animal repair shop, but since owning a live animal is such an honor and owning a robotic one is humiliating by comparison, this repair shop is called something along the lines of a Veterinary Clinic instead.
Note: John Isidore is the very last entry on a very short wikipedia disambiguation page for Isadore.
I don’t want to be there…and even if I was, I’ve nowhere to go.
History reference: Isadore feels like she doesn’t belong in the desert and doesn’t want to be there. However, she doesn’t know where she DOES belong and what I gather she is actually looking for (Solira) has been destroyed – so she’s got nowhere to go.
but I’m not smart enough to leave
Name reference: Just another tidbit of information about John Isidore’s “special” or “chickenhead” classification.
I enjoy film and music, namely jazz like David Murray and Japanese rock.
Rank reference: On wiki’s “child” disambiguation page, you see a film called Children, a play called Children, a David Murray album called Childrenm and a Japanese rock band called Mr. Children.

Name reference: More about John Isidore – one of the calls he answers is about a very sick cat, which given his occupation and intelligence he believes to be simply a mechanical animal. Even when the cat dies in his truck on the way to the shop he is still convinced it’s a fake. Learning of this, his boss threatens to fire him unless he handles the problem himself.
