having suffered the loss of "real" Eagles when our house burnt down, I can understand your "virtual" loss feelings!
As an IT professional, I would say, try the data restoration professionals - it works more often than you might think. Even if you cannot afford this right now, whatever you do, do not trash or re-format the affected drive.
Let me know if you want again anything I have sent you.
PLEASE do not give up on the successor to your magnum opus. The modelling world needs that follow-up just as much as it needed your Eagle book, if not more.
