Those of you who receive Len's lists (and many others) will have heard of the death of John Ellis of Scunthorpe, who had been a collector for many years. John had also been a stalwart supporter of Welton for as long as I can remember.
John's widow has asked that his collections be disposed of 'in one go' and the sale is being handled by Messrs Perkins George Mawer, of Market Rasen, Lincs http://www.perkinsgeorgemawer.co.uk/
John collected in an eclectic manner and the auctioneers deserve to be congratulated on the amount of hard work that they've done on the collection. As I'm 'just down the road', I've made a visit to 'assist' and try and shed some light on the ships.
So, the collection consists of:
approx 1000 books - naval, maritime & military, as well as other subjects.
An assortment of periodicals & magazines; DVDs, videos, posters, calendars, etc.
A collection of model cars (Solido, etc., etc.) and Dinky toys.
Matchbox 'Collectibles' aircraft.
Model ship kits in plastic - a variety of scales from 1/300 to 1/700.
Approx 1000 1/1200 & 1/1250 scale model ships in kits and complete. These include LJ kits (some untouched; some in grey primer). Some painted LJ models. Some LJ/WMS models. Also Deep C & some Llyn. A large quantity of 'original' Minic - much of it playworn and as 'restoration' projects. Lots of Minic harbour parts. Skytrex & Portside harbour parts. A quantity of 'Ensign' - mainly mercantile. Also quantities of Hansa, Sextant, Star, Skytrex, Albatros, Superior, etc., etc. (any omissions not intentional).
Many miscellaneous items.
The sale is on Saturday 7th November at 9.30am. I understand that 'viewing' is on the Friday afternoon. A full downloadable catalogue should be available nearer the time.
Please address any enquiries direct to the auctioneers. 'Welton' regulars from the South should note that Rasen is approx 25 minutes further on.
(Can I point out that this is the collection of John Ellis of Scunthorpe - not that other Welton stalwart John Ellis of Cleethorpes who is still very much with us)
