Remember that railway lines where people walk on them or have to drive vehicles over them are embedded in granite sets or paving slabs or concrete and usually the track is tram track with an "S" cross-section rather than bull-head rail in chairs on wooden sleepers. That would make the rails almost invisible from a scale 5ft off the ground!
