With the Autumn shows looming, I have had to call off further lighthouse research (holidays!) and get down to making models. New lighthouses in the paint shop are Spurn Head (a low relief diorama, 25cm long to which the "Sandy Shore" modules can be added at either or both ends if that isn't long enough for you!) and Point of Ayr (from Wales!). Both of these models were not on the original 2009 "Coming Soon" list but are products of "cross kitting" from the existing castings! Bell Rock should be available by next weekend too, now that I have decided to present it at high tide to avoid modelling the remains of the tramway on the Inchcape reef. Because it is Gordon Brown's local rock lighthouse, I think he would approve the cut to make a leaner, smaller and cheaper model (and the tramway would be too flimsy anyway)! The old lady has been modelled in her prime, before she needed to wear her current bonnet to scare the birds away! I am hoping to finish the rest of the new lighthouse programme before Christmas.
The other new series of models is the Coastlines Cameo range of two-tone resin castings to paint and trim yourselves. These models have land moulded in fawn resin and integral sea bases in blue resin and have been produced using the old Hein Mueck moulds. The models have been produced in response to those who want moulded bases on the larger models instead of waterline models and the cost of the extra blue resin means that the painted waterline models and the unpainted models with bases will be the same. Trial castings for Christianso, Columbus Bahnhof, Fort Fincastle, Avalos Tower and all three U-boat bunkers are on-going with a view to show the models at Theale next month.
