We've been staying at the summer house in Sweden for over a week, now. I've just found an internet "cafe" at the local railway station. so I'm taking the chance to have a quick read of Dockside and catch up with reports from Welton. I'm glad to see that Tim organised another popular and successful event.
We travelled out here on a freight ship from Tilbury to Harwich. Stena's "Ark Forwarder" made stately progress at 10 knots and the voyage only lasted 32 hours (!). It was very strange to be on a working ship after so many trips on regular ferries. Only four passengers (including Ann and I) but hundreds of containers. The cabin was OK and food was served up in the crew canteen. Although the ship has English officers, the remaining 10 or so seamen were all Russian or Latvians. So the food was "Russian" but tasty and lots of it. Every four hours, of course. What was most odd was the complete quiet. The engines were aft and the accomodation completely forward, so the trip was noise and vibration free. We return in two weeks time IF I can find my way back to the correct berth at Gothenburg docks. We're booked on another ro-ro freighter for the run back to Tilbury - DFDS "Tor Begonia" - which I hope will be as much fun.
ö this Swådish keyböäard is driving me cråzy
Enjoy summer
John
