You could solder wire using a cardboard rectangular jig. Wind wire round card three times in one direction and once in the other. solder joints and snip wires to correct lengths. You can use this technique with masts and yards too. Dave Willcocks (Dreadnought Models) may be able to offer advice about supplies of straight wire in appropriate thicknesses but wire off a bobbin can be tightened straight around card by twisting on the back.
