It's been very quiet on Dockside lately. Perhaps everyone is on holiday or working in the garden?
To keep things ticking over, I'll try and fill the void with some of my recent projects pour encourager les autres.
Months ago, I mentioned on the board that I'd picked up a couple of battered Tri-angs at a car boot sale for £1 each. There was some discussion as to the merits of restoration v. detailing. Well, I tried the super detail approach (painted decks, handmade wire masts etc.) but somehow they just didn't feel right. So back into the stripper and start again. Here's M714 Flandre and M713 Antilles after my attempt at a "restoration".
The funnels are the originals which weren't in bad condition but the lost masts have been replaced with some of Martin Brown's clever white metal replacement items. White metal masts bend very easily but at least you can straighten them which is difficult with the soft plastic originals.
I expect there are people who feel that using replacement parts is cheating. However, these models are intended purely for my own collecting pleasure. If I ever tried to list them on eBay and pass them off as genuine, it might be a different story. Luckily, no-one would ever dream of doing that - would they?
