The 1970s Nichimo "box scale" plastic kits of USS Eisenhower, Enterprise and Carl Vinson have made their annual reappearance in discount and bargain shops. The current crop are made in China and carry the LEE brand name, being sold at around £2.99 to £3.50.
The original releases were called the "30 cms" series and included a Iowa, Missouri and New Jersey. This made the battleships about 1/900 scale but the CVNs (by pure luck) work out to almost exactly 1/1200.
With a bit of work and some CAP Aero or Mountford aircraft, a nice waterline model is available for a silly price. I managed to buy a couple of Vinsons for the stash. If anyone is looking for one of these kits and can't track one down in the shops, get in touch.
There's a useful review of the Enterprise on Rajen's "List of Ship Kits".
