I have the same reaction to models with rigging.
I know it should be there and I know it is important - but I shouldn't be able to see it at this scale. To me it makes a model look top-heavy and in the case of Spider Navy models it diminishes the massiveness and therefore the impressiveness of the ship rather than enhances it.
Perhaps that is what it's all about: - the model maker's decision as to what should be noticeable and therefore modelled at this scale - and what is best left to the imagination.
