Will and I spoke about this at Welton. To me, Neptun lack soul, I know that this is a keel hauling offence to some but it is purely my personal view. Maybe it has to do with my wargaming roots but a Superior BB looks how a BB should in my minds eye, big and solid and heavy and a Neptun looks too delicate to me. In plain terms I reckon a Superior BB would wipe the floor with a Neptun BB any day and that to me is what a Battleship should be about. I feel strongly enough about this to be gradually 'retro ing' my RN WW2 fleet by selling off my Neptun and going back to Superior, Clydeside, Ensign etc. Its nice to be able to pick up a model to look at it without worrying how many gun barrels i've bent! I am also enjoying going back to the days of sitting down with a model and adding a few AA guns and painting some detail on. There is no denying the quality of say a Neptun or Albatros model, they are works of art and if I was a ship model collector I would buy them all, but my own personal preference is to collect 'the ship' hence I couldn't have say 3 Hoods for instance. Am I mad? I always knew I should never have listened to Tim when he said real ale was good for you.....
