Definitely not a pool in that position!!
The CMKR55 model of the ship has a little more detail and shows the short mast aft of the square to be a radar aerial and within the square at the centre forward position is a tiny upright. Photos show signal lines from this position up to the rigging line running from foremast to funnel so my guess is it's a signals area with weather protection.
