During an email exchange with Gary Anson a few weeks ago, I discovered that he is happy to sell castings from his 1/1200 Loft Lines range to enthusiasts who like to build and paint their own models from kits. This interesting range of models deserves to be better known, especially as the selection of subjects is really a bit "different".
Gary sent me a parcel just before Christmas which enclosed four of his kits - British India "Amra" (the heavy lift liner of 1969), Harrison's "Magician", Manchester Liners "Manchester Concorde" container ship and the Swedish stealth frigate "Visby".
I been working on "Amra" over the holiday and here it is virtually finished:
The hull casting was neatly done in cream resin with most masts already in place. I managed to break these off of course, and made replacements from brass wire. The huge Stulken derrick is separately cast, as is the double jib Gemini crane situated between the two forward hatches. Gary provided some polystyrene microstrip and fine brass wire to make up the two remaining cargo cranes and the small stores cranes at the stern. I couldn't resist having a fiddle and altered the mainmast attached to the funnel by reducing its height and adding the radar platform using a spare Len Jordan crosstree, filed to a smaller size.
Finished models from the Loft Lines series are being sold by Les Hodder at Wirral Miniships. The current list is:
Manchester Concorde £25
Type 45 Destroyer
Magician (Harrison Line) £25
St Laurent in DDE and DDH configuration £15
Bras D'or Hydrofoil £10
Plainview Hydrofoil £10
High Point Hydrofoil USN or USCG colours £10
Visby stealth corvette £12
Absalon Danish multi purpose vessel £20
Andrea Doria (type 45 equivalent)
Vidal survey ship from 1950's £15
British India Amra 111 from late 60's £25
Anyone interested in the kits should contact Gary directly gary.anson@talk21.com
Future models are expected to include "Nueva Esparta" Venezuelan Destroyer from 1960's and a Restigouche IRE class DDE.
I really like what Gary has achieved with this series and very much enjoyed making "Amra". I hope to tackle Magician and Manchester Concorde quite soon and hope to post some photos of the finished models.
