Hi Shelly
I was excited to find your website and to see that the Miss New Orleans Pageant was alive and well! I was Miss New Orleans in 1973. At that time, it was a preliminary to Miss Louisiana (America). I would love for you to list my name in your past queens for that year.
I now live in Knoxville TN (close to the Smoky Mtns) and in 1994 was Mrs. Tennessee (America). You may know my sister Lori. She was Mrs. New Orleans, then won Mrs. Louisiana (America) in 1996, I believe. I was just there this week for a quick visit and really miss my home town. My sister Judy Colley used to live in Slidell, I think you live there, but didn't know if you knew her. They moved after Katrina took away everything.
Just for fun, I'm enclosing a picture of when I was crowned. I can't believe I still have all these old newspaper clippings. The pageant was held at Pontchatrain Beach for many years. And, for a few years, there was no pageant. The year I won, it was the first pageant since it was held at the beach years before. It was directed by the Young Men's Business Club. They did a fantastic job... lot's of support from a lot of high profile business men. I've attached an old fashioned "telegram" from Mayor Moon Landrieu to me at the Mrs. La Pageant. The ways of communicating sure have changed, LOL!
Many blessings
Kay Johnson Rogers
