1960 Maercury Monterey Questions Posted by JABIV on January 29, 2012, 4:19 pm 24.218.201.43 Hi, my name is Joe and I'm thinking of buying a 1960 Mercury Monterey that has no motor or transmission. I know that these cars came with a Y-block motor, but I would like to stick a early 70's 460 with a C-6 transmission into it. My question is what is involved with this process? Do I need to fabricate anything or can I use engine mounts meant for a 460 and the original transmission mount for the Monterey? I'd like to do the majority of it myself if possible, but don't want to get in over my head. Thanks for any suggestions and help. Joe.

The 60 Mercury had the 312 Y-block as the base engine and 383ci or 430ci MEL (Mercury-Edsel-Lincoln) engines as options. The drivers side body mount has been clearanced for the drivers side exhaust (it has exhaust manifolds rather than headers). I'm not sure if this was absolutely necessary as the work was done by the previous owner. It looks like it would clear (albeit close) without the mod. I'm going back to an FE powerplant (original 390 Tri-power car). Good luck.
