bolting the body to the frame Posted by aaron z on June 28, 2009, 7:22 pm 71.121.72.202 i just dropped the body back on the frame of my 64 galaxie convertible. i am replacing the old bushings with new ones from concours parts. the problem is, with all the new bushings on the mounts, some of them are not even close to touching the body. my question is, do i start from the front, back or middle of the body, and use shims where there are gaps? the old mounts were all different thicknesses, but would like to make it right.  Post a Response

I would ad shims as needed to the point where all the bushings that were to short end up the same compressed thickness as the bushings that are the correct size. make sense???  Post a Response

Re: bolting the body to the frame Posted by aaron z on July 1, 2009, 12:14 pm, in reply to "bolting the body to the frame " 71.121.72.202 i am not sure, but convertibles are different than hardtops in just that way. the roof adds stregnth to the structure of the body where as a convertible does not, but instead has a large x in the frame that the driveshaft passes through to add strength. when i put all the body bushings in place, the front mounts were touching, and the very rear mounts were 1" away from the body. i started to tighten the bolts down, and watched the gaps in the doors get wider, so that tells me i am stressing the body. what i am doing now is "cheating" the bushings by taking a little of the thickness off. just to see where that puts me. i do appreciate the reply.  Post a Response
