1961 Merc. Meteor 800 Trans Type ???? Posted by David Brown on May 6, 2009, 6:54 pm 69.250.244.4 I am trying to figure out the type of transmission in my 61 merc meteor 800 which is a step below a monterey. It is a 3 speed automatic, possibly i think its called a mercomatic. My trans code is 4. And on another research source it calls a trans 4 code= Automatic Dual Range 3 Spd. Reason i want to know is i would like to change the filter and gasket on the meteor. When i went to NAPA today they had no trans types avail and there trans types i could get parts for were for a 1) MX 2) FX 3) FM Please help me out i am ooooooooo so close to getting the car out the garage. Meteor 800 Trans Type ????" 75.156.32.145 Also get under the car and see if the tranny id plate is still attached to the tranny just behind the shifter linkage and while you are under there, measure the length of the case from the bellhousing joint to the tailshaft joint, might be 9 7/8 th.  Post a Response
