When posting a question about your Galaxie or other Ford (all are welcome), BE SURE to tell us what it is, what year, engine, etc so we have enough information to accurately answer questions.

Update on 61-64 shock and how they are hard to find. Posted by Daze on July 29, 2008, 8:45 pm 69.145.221.22 On a previous post we talked about how the shocks for the early 60s Galaxies are hard to find. After a bunch of research I found a cross reference for the shocks designed for the 78 Lincoln Versailles. I ordered a set of KYB shocks from summit because they were about the same price as getting standard shocks locally. Any way today I pulled the old shocks and compared them to the new ones. Fully compressed they are the same length, fully extended the original units are about .5" longer. The top and bottom mounts fit perfectly. When I went to the auto-parts store and tried summit racing... I did a bunch more research and came up with KYB part # 343136 I then took that part # back to the autoparts store and was able to get this list of all the cars it fits EDSEL 1960 RANGER 1959 - 1960 VILLAGER FORD 1959 - 1964 GALAXIE 1969 - 1977 MAVERICK 1975 - 1980 GRANADA 1959 RANCHERO LINCOLN 1977 - 1980 VERSAILLES MERCURY 1971 - 1977 COMET 1961 - 1964 MONTEREY 1975 - 1980 MONARCH NISSAN 1966 - 1970 1600 1968 - 1970 2000  Post a Response

I need to get a set for the front. how much are they going for? Also I need to replace the metal tabs at the bottom under the car that the shocks attach to.  Post a Response

Big difference with new controlvalve, no more dreaming about pack & onion steering !!! LOL I installed 1 week ago Mooneyes "universal" 2" drop block kit for rear, perfect fit !! Rear was too hig, due to extra leaf. NOw rear is about 1" lower than orginally. Frontend sitts now little bit too high ! Mika  Post a Response

I go by just "size" then applications as it's really impossible finding a "racing" shock for a full size ford. Most all the common manufacturers have length/mounting application charts so you can pick/choose what fits. LarryK  Post a Response

I phoned a bilstein dealer and he said he would find some for my application. He sells bilsteins for classic cars. I will just need to measure the size, compressed and not. 80-100 euro a piece. 100-about 120$ a piece. I'll let you know how they handle when I get them.  Post a Response
