When posting a question about your Galaxie or other Ford (all are welcome), BE SURE to tell us what it is, what year, engine, etc so we have enough information to accurately answer questions.

Redid the weather stripping on my 62 4-door. Bigger project than I expected!! Posted by Daze on June 19, 2008, 7:39 pm 69.145.221.22 For those of you not familiar with the 62 Galaxie it seems to be the red headed step child when it aftermarket parts availability. When you look in the catalogs there are not a lot of 62 parts and those that are available are for the 2-door not the 4-door. Any way after calling lots of Galaxie specific places, I was able to find 2-door weather stripping but not 4-door and the 2-door stuff was expensive. So armed with a chunk of the existing weather stripping I went down to Napa and found some generic replacement stripping in the original Ford design. Over the last two days I pulled the doors one at a time. Removed the old stripping and glued the new on. I couldn't be happier with the results. Looks as good as stock and seams to make a nice seal.  Post a Response

Now granted the wheatherstripping for the 65 four door galaxie will fit the wagon finding anything else is a pain! Especially fo the tailgate! Later I'll have to tell you how I "fabricated" a new window crank socket out of an 11/16 socket.  Post a Response

Bigger project than I expected!!" 69.145.221.22 4-door sadans, wagons, they both fall under the attitude of "if its not a 2-door than why bother" I hate that!!! There are a lot of members of the full-size community that DON'T feel that way but the car community as a whole and definutly the aftermarket has that attitude. I bought my Galaxie because it was a 4-door. I already have a 2-door car and I needed the extra doors  Post a Response

I WAS WONDERING HOW TO MAKE SURE THAT THE ENGINE IS THE MATCHING NUMBERS ONE. THE VIN HAS A Z WHICH I KNOW IS A 390 BUT IS IT THE CORRECT DATE AND HOW CAN I TELL. ALSO I HAVE THE FORD CAST IRON HEADERS AND WHEN THE ENGINE IS HOT THE STARTER REALLY STRAINS. I HAVE A 850 CRANKING AMP BATTERY AND 1 GUAGE WIRES WHICH. Almost missed this post because of it being at the bottom of an old thread... To find the date code you need to look at the block casting # which should be on the block down near the starter. You may need to remove the starter to see it. The casting # on this block is "3A12" which tells us January 12, 1963. With older fords there is no way to tell if the motor in your car is the one it started with, you can only assume. If you have a 64 and the motor was replaces with a motor made a month or two before the car was built, you would still have a matching #s car. Let me know if this all makes sense or if I can help further with casting #s As far as the starter straining when the motor is hot, that tells me that most likely the timing is to far advanced, but there is a less likely chance the carburetor is set to rich. Check the carb first. You can do this by pulling a spark plug and looking at the color of the electrodes. If your plugs are black, which would indicate to rich a carb setting, then adjust the idle mixture screws just a touch to lean out the mix. But if the plugs are golden brown then timing is the issue and you need to back it off about 1 degree and try a hot start again. Let us know what you find on the casting numbers and how things turn out with the hot starts  Post a Response

Bigger project than I expected!!" 70.61.207.198 I plan to redo the weatherstripping (door seals) sometime soon. Did you find that kind of stuff at the NAPA? Also, I have ordered the weather strip pieces that go along the top edge of the door and wipe the window when it goes up and down. Ordered from Dearborn Classics. The originals were attached to a chromed trim piece with rivets and the chrome piece then screws to the inner surface of the window channel. The chrome trim piece could only be removed after the window was removed. My fear is that the new "fuzzies" as they are called will be hard to install and that it may be weeks before I can get my windows back in. Any body ever install these window "fuzzies" before and have some advice?  Post a Response

Bigger project than I expected!!" 69.145.220.22 double sided adhesive tape Get your self some 1/16" UHB 3M double sided adhesive foam tape. I know it sounds hokey, but I have talked to quite a few "professional" auto restores and they recommend this technique. The advantage to the tape is that it holds well and you don't have to deal with rivets and screws. The problem with rivets or screws if if they are not perfectly flush you run the risk of scratching the glass. Yes the door weatherstripping came from Napa  Post a Response

I am looking for thin rubber-like material about an inch wide and maybe 1/32" thick that runs between 2 pieces of trim. The outermost trim piece runs up the A pillar then along the roof line and down the C pillar (on my 2 door). This thin rubber stuff would in no way come near the glass as it is sandwiched between the A pillar, roof line, and C pillar and the trim itself. The trim piece does have a channel for window seal rubber which is available from Dearborn Classics, but I plan to salvage mine for now and put new in later when finances are better. On a different subject, I already ordered the fuzzies which attach to the door's upper edge and wipe the window. Where does this double sided tape you speak of go?  Post a Response

The double sided tape goes between the beltlinner which is the felt strip that goes on either side of the window where it meats the main bod of the door.  Post a Response

That makes sense now. I will see what the beltliner looks like when it comes this week. Stay tuned. I have a bunch of new stuff to add to the car in the next few weeks.
