It is a lot harder with these cars since they are not a common or as popular as say a Mustang or other popular classics. The other thing is it can be really hard to value something with out pictures. First thing I did after reading your post was to go to www.CCTOL.com and did a search for 62 galaxies. There were the results.
62 virt $23,000
62 virt $20,000
62 virt $3500
As you can see the fully restored cars are fetching about $20,000 and the junker in $3500. I would say (this is just a guess) based on that info and the description you gave, the car in question is probably worth between $7000 and $12000 Sorry I cant be more specific. hope this helps.
As far as what to look for, make sure it runs and drives well. make sure all the trim is there and make sure the glass is intact, other than body work and paint those few things will be the most expensive to fix/replace
