Daze, this is the other thread I said I would start in the front spring cutting thread.
When I first got my car I replaced the rear coils with Moog Cargo Coils because the original springs were sacked right out, it didn't take much in the trunk to point the headlights to the tree tops. The cargo coils raised the rear above stock ride height and in so doing the rear end is pulled over to the drivers side by panhard bar. I see two choices for addressing this issue and centering the rear end, but which is the best.
One solution is to cut one end off the bar and attach an adjustable end link to allow the bar to be lengthened as needed to center the rear end in the car. The other solution I see is to extend the bracket from the frame mount to restore the original geometry of the panhard bar, which should return the rear end to centre. My understanding is that the panhard bar is intended to be level with the road, horizontal, at ride height.
A longer bar will centre the rear end, but the geometry would not be ideal and will result in greater lateral movement as the suspension moves vertically over it's travel. Is that concern really critical? I imagine it won't matter on a street driven car, but if I add a rear sway bar, will it be more likely to bind? It is probably 'six of one and half dozen of another', but thoughts on the pluses and minuses would be interesting to hear.
