When posting a question about your Galaxie or other Ford (all are welcome), BE SURE to tell us what it is, what year, engine, etc so we have enough information to accurately answer questions.

I am all about the numbers I love a good mathematical approach but springs don't always seem to follow the rules. not that a spring and spring rate cant be mathematically quantified, I know it can. The issue is quantifying it correctly and accounting for all the variables including front end weight, suspension geometry, spring material, # of coils and those are just the ones I can think of off the top of my head
With that said I prefer a more systematic approach. I have not done anything with the front coils on my Galaxie, but I have done tones with Mustang front coils and here is what I have learned.
Give the springs time to settle, if you just installed them give them at least a month before cutting them.
cut a little and re-install. I have found the best way to get the desired ride height is to cut 1/4 coil off re-install the springs and give it a month. if it is not enough, cut anther 1/4 coil
spring rates change as you cut them. The more you cut the stiffer the spring will get so 1/4" coil may drop the car 1" the first time and only 3/4" the second time. (totally made up #s to illustrate my point
)
