Yes, I toyed with the idea of doing that, not that I knew it could be done, but I thought it could be. The guy I bought the car from had put the MT on the 289 but it had a "shimmy" and he never was happy or satisfied that it would be OK. Alas, I decided to return the AT to the car since I do not believe the AT I have would be able to handle the 390 motor. The AT has been rebuilt now and ready to put back on the 289. I will sell the MT and shifter linkage on eBay and use the money to fund my project car.
