Its all looking good !
Programme has gone to print, the Under 21 heats and grids matrix forms the colour centre page spread, we haven’t put it on glossy paper because we know how difficult it is to write on glossy paper with cheap biro’s !
Having obtained an extra field for the pits from the farmer it gives us more scope for laying out the track. The largest of pits vehicles will need to enter via the spectator entrance as the pits entrance is on the narrow side, I guess we will have to do some hedge trimming too !
We don’t have any preconceptions about the track size and shape, but if a car can comfortably be driven around it then we know it will be alright for bikes. With the various cambers on the bends at Ugley a rope radius just does not work !
We have some minor problems still to overcome, a bridge closure near the track may cause a small diversion (It took 2 years to rebuild the bridge and now its has been closed because a water leak has caused the road to subside!) The official diversion is 32 miles, but don’t worry, we wont send you round there ! It looked like they were putting down tarmac on the bridge yesterday so we are hoping it will be open by Friday.
We are unable to dismantle a short piece of fencing between the pits and the spectator area so we have to overcome that in some way, maybe if they finish repairing the bridge early they will come and build a bridge over it for us !
Chesney King from Cornwall has just upgraded to a National licence and will ride in the Under 21 Competition, Cornwall riders seem to do well at Ugley, it was a clean sweep for them at the Masters Qualifier !
We have engaged the services of Annie Boyle as Rider Liason Officer for the Under 21 competition and Matt Wear will be helping out on the Centre Green, thanks to both of them for offering their services to the Club.
Practice for the Under 21 competition will be segregated from the other classes (as will the pits area) and the Under 21 will practice in rider number order (8 at a time) at 12.00 and 12.30 only.
Admission prices are £10 Adult, £8 OAP, £1 Children, 24 page programme is £2.
Track is signposted from junction 8 of the M11. (Do not confuse it with junction 8A!) The Essex police keep all the money from speeding fines due to a special government deal, so they are a bit keen with their speed guns in the villages, particularly Newport, so take care!
Practice is at 12.00, Parade of Under 21 Riders at 1.25 and racing starts at 1.30pm sharp.
Weather for the rest of the week looks ideal, so come along and watch the stars of the future ! 284
