When is the weather in Blitzkrieg ever anything but shitty?
There was a foot of snow, but Alcatraz knew one thing about horses: they evolved in chilly climates and were actually quite capable of running in snow without slipping. Alcatraz approached at a walk, the sunlight reflecting off the immaculate snow nearly blinding him half to death. He squinted, sending tendrils of lightning out towards his adversary to better find him.
Blitzstrahl, he growls – and that’s all it takes. Uncontained lightning roars from his body, shattering the silence. A frenetic blue ball of electricity took the immense form of a Steppe Eagle, swirling away from his body and plunging violently into Zakr’s own.
And let him be consumed by lightning.
The shock was equal to the shock in a tazer; deviated solely from Alcatraz’s unyielding power. Zakr would have the shit shocked out of him, which would no doubt be magnified by the snow. Even though he was Earth (and Alcatraz felt Earth claw at him), he would not be impervious – he would be rendered sluggish, and in this footing, that is exactly what Alcatraz wanted.
Alcatraz, always rash and bold, dared not to do anything more than a walk – the snow was too deep and slick to warrant anything else. He approached head on, his burly body churning nearly effortlessly through the snow, examining Zakr as he succumbed to his super. When he came close enough to strike out, Alcatraz shifted his weight backwards and waited patiently, cocking an ear forwards as if observing the brightness of the sun. He then threw his weight backwards and rose in a quarter rear (his front hooves barely cleared 18 inches off of the ground), aiming to slam ruthlessly down upon Zakr’s front left pastern with such brutality it was stunning. His hooves aimed to directly land upon the place where the short and long pastern joined – a structurally weak spot where the two pasterns jointed that would break under nearly 800 pounds of pure pressure. The pasterns are designed to absorb horizontal concussion, but are utterly incapable of absorbing a great deal of vertical concussion. Zakr was looking at fractures at the very least, if not a completely broken left pastern joint. It was a favorite trick of his – strike while the horse is helpless to retaliate. Zakr wasn’t just ‘sluggish’; it was his reaction time that was severely postponed. It was highly likely by the time Zakr realized Alcatraz was attacking, Alcatraz’s hooves would have already pulverized pastern bone. And it was not just mental reaction that was sluggish but pain as well – electricity causes the victim to be rigid, and Alcatraz’s hooves (much like Anatole’s fiery hooves or Ilium’s rock hooves) had enough electricity in them to light up half a nation. If he’s going to land on Zakr, why not shock the living shit out of him as well?
Of course, if Zakr did manage to sluggishly move out of the way, Alcatraz would pull off of his attack casually and try again – his Super did not expire until contact was made, and Alcatraz was in no rush.
Once he landed (presumably) on the pastern joint and shattered it, Alcatraz pulled away from the horse, executing a long and slow roll-back towards Zakr, a cruel glint in his eyes. Nearly four meters before Zakr he slipped, recovering ungracefully, a rush of pain shooting up his shoulder as he did so (no doubt the slip had jerked something). This time, Blitzstrahl would not help him. But by now, he thoroughly expected Zakr to be crippled.
He approached and turned to Zakr’s left, their barrels rubbing as Alcatraz passed (and once more, Alcatraz loathed the sapping of Zakr’s Earth – how it burdened him!). And then, he unleashed a titanic kick issued towards Zakr’s left knee, the back where the tendons delved deep into ligament and bone – it was not just meta-carpal he would decimate but precious tendon and bone as well. It was a low attack, low enough that he would not sacrifice the integrity of the power behind it to ensure good footing – he did not tuck his head between his knees nor did both hind legs clear the ground. It was almost a cowkick, save for he brought his hind leg towards his barrel and then unleashed it singing towards the back of Zakr’s knee with brutal precision. The hoof was laced with electricity, and hopefully the shock behind it (think of the shock behind a fence, it causes you to yelp and step back, even with Zakr’s powerful Earth, the power was slightly diluted but still retained enough to shock him) would cause him to pull back or slip. It was a devastating blow with terrible repercussions – his whole haunch went into the move to double the potency behind the attack. Alcatraz then unleashed a brutal combo, hitting the same leg again, hopefully in the same spot. It was the leg that had been attacked in Alcatraz’s first wicked onslaught, and he timed it just when Zakr would be putting weight upon it – he hoped to knock the leg right out from under him (which was, in the footing, perfectly plausible).
If Zakr tried to shy, he would be hindered by his left leg. Even then, Alcatraz used his supreme horsey-vision (keep in mind the large scope of sight horses have over us) to hopefully ensure he hit his target. Alcatraz was relentless – he wanted to make completely sure his opponent turned up dead-lame. Once he hit his mark he kept going, executing another roll-back and aligning himself with Zakr’s left and injured side. To attack, Zakr would have to spin and then attack (which would give Alcatraz plenty of time to bolt out of the way), or he’d have to attack with his left leg.
And now, it was Zakr’s turn to deal damage.
